PT Metro Pacific Tollways Indonesia Services (MPTIS) inaugurated the disability empowerment program "Komunitas Berdaya Nusantara" (Thursday, 28/11/24) to support the improvement of the business of assisted groups of people with disabilities. The program's inauguration was attended by representatives from the local government of South Tangerang City, the community, and members of the fostered disability community. This program is an initiative of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that aims to encourage the economic independence of the fostered group through skills training, to provide facility support, expanding business marketing access, and creating an inclusive space for friends with disabilities.
Head of Corporate Communication & CSR of PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk, Indah D. P. Pertiwi said, " The Komunitas Berdaya Nusantara Program is part of our commitment to implementing ESG principles in social aspects. We believe that providing equal access for people with disabilities not only creates a positive impact for them individually but also strengthens social inclusion in society."
The community fostered in this program is the Daksa Mandiri Community located in Bambu Apus Village, Pamulang District, South Tangerang. This community is a group consisting of around 30 individuals with physical disabilities. Members of this community come from various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) backgrounds, such as sewing, and food production, to stall businesses. Most of the community members are people with disabilities due to polio, amputation, or cerebral palsy, who have been facing various social and economic challenges.
The Komunitas Berdaya Nusantara Program is an effort to complement the spirit of community entrepreneurship by providing soft skills training, such as entrepreneurial character development and business management, and hard skills, including technical skills in fields relevant to their business.
Hadiana, a Representative of the South Tangerang local government (Penyuluh Sosial Ahli Muda Dinas Sosial Kota Tangerang Selatan), also appreciated this program. "This program is an extraordinary step in building synergy between the private sector, the government, and the disability community. We are confident that the interventions carried out, such as training and providing access to business facilities, will certainly create a sustainable impact on the community. Hopefully, this program can inspire many parties to be involved in empowering other fostered groups."
Through this program, community members also receive support for infrastructure such as work aids for various business variations, such as food freezers & cooking utensils for culinary businesses, sewing machines for clothing businesses, and others. This program also supports product branding training, and marketing assistance through digital platforms. Other support includes the provision of business legality, such as the creation of a Business Identification Number (NIB) and product certification that will strengthen the business fostered in the market. In addition, mobility aid support, in the form of prosthetic arms, is also provided to members of the fostered group to support daily productivity.
The Komunitas Berdaya Nusantara Program also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 10 (Reducing Inequality). This disability empowerment program is expected not only to create economic opportunities but also to build a more inclusive society. "We hope this program will be a starting point for the fostered groups of people with disabilities to be more confident and independent, both as a workforce and entrepreneurs, concluded Indah".
