Based on Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (DG NREEC) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM)) data, Indonesian energy consumption has increased to 7% per year in the recent years. The renewal energy development has become the solution to overcome it. Its utilization is one of the solutions beside renewal energy. Hydro power is one of many developed sectors, Lariang Hydro power project for instance. In cooperation with PT Nusantara Infrastructure, Tbk (META) and SN Power (Norwegia) also Aboitiz Power (Filipina).

The fulfilment of these requirements is not enough just to rely on fossil fuels, it needs a systematic effort to develop renewal energy which affluent in Indonesia. The big potential such as geothermal energy, biofuels, coal bed methane (CBM), wind power, solar power, to hydro power (hydro energy).

The support of renewal energy utilize is more than enough both in the legislation and government as well. Through Presidential Decree No. 5/2006 on National Energy Policy, the government instructs to gradually change the domination of national mixed energy to other alternative energies including 17% renewal energy in the next 2025.

Hydro power has very reasonable to get the government’s support through Energy and Mineral Resources issued Decree No. 31 of 2009 on the purchase price of electricity by PT PLN (Persero) from power plants that use renewable energy small and medium scale.
