State, private enterprises to build Soekarno-Hatta airport railway

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta - 29/05/2011

A state enterprise and a private company are expected to share the work in the construction of a railway connecting Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, with Jakarta.

The state enterprise is expected to work on the part of the railway passing through Tangerang, while the private business will construct the part that will pass through Pluit in North Jakarta, deputy transportation minister Bambang Susantono said Sunday.

He said a number of state and private enterprises had expressed interest in the project and were currently drafting designs for the rail.

“We’re still checking how they did the designs,” Bambang said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The longer Pluit line had more commercial potential, with the value of the construction project estimated at about Rp 10 trillion (US$1.17 billion), Bambang said.

The Tangerang line will be shorter, with the project estimated at Rp 2 trillion.
