In anticipation to traffic congestion following the operation of Transjakarta bus (busway) corridor IX serving the route of Pinangranti-Pluit, Jakarta Capital City Government plans to widen the road space along the corridor. The widening will be done on road section of Jl Gatot Subroto, specifically from Plaza Semanggi to Hotel Crowne.

This plan was disclosed by Jakarta Capital City Governor Fauzi Bowo during his inspection to check the readiness of a number of facilities and infrastructure in corridor IX, Thursday (12/9).

"This corridor will meet the traffic flowing into Semanggi I toll road. So there is a potential problem. Together with police, we will anticipate the problem," said Fauzi Bowo, Thursday (12/9). According to Fauzi, the road widening project has been budgeted for the 2011 fiscal year.

In addition, disclosed the governor, the city administration would also anticipate tens of trouble spots along the two corridors. Generally, the problems are sourced from technical issues namely, the on/off of toll road, the road geometric that needs improvement, and the activities in the median of the road (illegal crossing), such as one found in Semanggi area.

In the meantime, Jakarta Police`s Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Royke Lumowa said, while waiting for the closure of Semanggi I toll gate, the police would apply open-close system at the trouble spots. The city`s traffic police would deploy a number of personnel during peak hours to set the system. "This is done to avoid congestion caused due to Transjaka
