Toll road operator PT Jasa Marga Tbk (JSMR) plans to add one elevated lane in the Jakarta inner city toll road along Cibubur- Cawang- Kuningan- Semanggi. The addition of lanes is aimed to raise the toll road’s capacity of around 30 to 35 percent and reduce traffic in those sections.

Hasanudin, Director of Operations at Jasa Marga, said the company is finalizing the design and studies related to the technical feasibility of the plan. The design and study results will be handed in to the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (Badan Pengatur Jalan Tol/BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.

According to Hasanudin, a single-lane elevated toll road will be constructed in the toll roads headed to the city. This is in anticipation of the traffic that can occur during construction work. “It is technically possible to build a lane around six meters wide so that the pillar and foundation does not have to be too large,” he said.

The elevated toll road will be dedicated for long distance travel from Cibubur that goes directly to Senayan. In the initial design, the company will provide two on-ramp entrances located after the Cibubur 2 toll booth and the Taman Mini West Ramp.

Hasanudin estimates that the addition of elevated toll road will direct around 30 to 35 percent of the traffic in the Cibubur-Cawang-Kuningan-Semanggi route each day. The daily traffic volume of the Jakarta inner city toll road reaches 560,000 transactions per day.

Adityawarman, President Director of Jasa Marga, added that the company will construct the elevated toll road in 2013, if the plan is approved by BPJT.

Meanwhile, toll road operator PT Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada Tbk (CMNP) allocates Rp 1 trillion (US$ 106 million) to fund the investment plan on toll roads for the next three years. Hudaya Arryanto, Director of Operations at Citra Marga, said the investment plan consists of acquiring one or two metropolitan toll roads that are around 20 kilometers.

The company is finalizing the acquisition of the two toll roads. One of the toll roads is the Cinere-Jagorawi toll road (24.8 km). The concession of this toll road is held by PT Translingkar Kita Jaya
